How to scrape eBay product data

An eBay listing may offer sizes or colors at different prices. Before scraping eBay product data, decide which selection you need. SKUGrab saves available details and the current selection locally, with notes for unknown information.

1. Start with the listing and intended selection

  1. Install and enable eBay.com

Install SKUGrab from Chrome Web Store, then open an eBay.com item page. In the extension popup, click Open export controls and grant requested access. The toolbar then appears automatically on enabled supported pages.

  2. Choose options on eBay first

Choose size, color or other available selectors; wait for the price update. Click More → Preview variants and check the specification and price. A variation ID is captured only from a numeric var parameter in the URL.

  3. Export or save locally

Export JSON downloads a product-named file. Collect product saves without downloading; Product library → View details shows JSON and specifications. Direct exports also save locally first.

2. Separate listing identity, options and price

Listing identity
id is the item / listing ID. variants[0].id holds the numeric var reference, or null when absent. Neither is a seller SKU.
Public specifications
options contains loaded selectable labels such as Size and Color; variants[0].options records the current selection. Structured item specifics, hidden combinations and seller SKUs are not exported.
Price and availability
price is a decimal string with currency, or null. A range is not a selected variation price. Available status may remain null and never represents stock quantity.
Description and images
title, available description text and image URLs are included. Descriptions absent from accessible page data may be empty. Images are links, not files.

3. Compare several listings with a batch ZIP

On a supported eBay results or product list, click Batch selection. Select products on their images, or use Select all loaded. After loading additional cards, click Scan product cards again. Only loaded, recognized cards are scanned; there is no automatic pagination.

Click Download selected · ZIP. Temporary tabs read selected card URLs and close afterward. The ZIP contains one JSON per included listing; inspect any skipped-product count. A batch does not copy specifications from another open tab. Export a detail page separately when a specific selection matters.

4. Interpret the listing JSON

Illustrative full schema-v1 record with every field shown. Listing, identifiers, image URL, timestamp and values are fictional, not a real eBay capture.

The top-level id identifies the listing, while variants[0].id matches the URL’s var reference. The listing offers M and L, but the snapshot records M only. L has no verified price here. sku: null and available: null mean unknown. completeness notes must guide how you reuse this partial selection.

5. Verify the saved snapshot

  • Match the listing ID, title and source URL to the intended item.
  • Compare the selected options and displayed price; confirm currency explicitly.
  • Read completeness.notes and distinguish unknown availability from unavailable status.
  • Check the downloaded ZIP’s JSON count and any skipped listings before analysis.

Filter Product library by eBay or search titles and IDs. Select saved records → Export JSON / ZIP: one downloads JSON, multiple download ZIP, using the same allowance. Recollecting a listing replaces its record, even for another variation; retain exported snapshots. Data stays in your browser and downloads without product-data uploads.

If a listing cannot be read

For missing controls, reopen the extension popup and check site access. For unrecognized cards, load more products and rescan. For missing options or prices, wait for the detail page to load and inspect it directly.

Login, CAPTCHA or verification pages stop collection; complete the normal website process. SKUGrab does not bypass access controls. Check downloads before retrying an interrupted ZIP. Background restarts require a new batch. Provide public URLs and extension/browser versions to support.

eBay scraping FAQ

Can I export every variation’s price and inventory?

No. The current collector saves a displayed-selection snapshot and loaded option labels. It does not enumerate hidden variations or infer stock quantities.

Can I download CSV or Excel?

JSON and batch ZIP are currently supported. CSV / Excel export is planned and is not available in these steps.

Does this provide sold-listing or sales-history data?

No. SKUGrab reads available product data from supported eBay.com pages on your action; it does not provide sold-listing research, transaction reports or price monitoring.
